About Us

My name is James E. Watkins III. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia (LPC) and a Certified Anger Management Specialist (CAMS). I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and a Clinical Telemental Health Provider (CTMH).
I worked in an outpatient mental health center in Douglas County from 2000 to 2014 doing individual, group, couples/marital and family counseling. I also maintained a private practice in East Cobb starting in 2004 and now I am doing that full time. I work with clients who have Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, Major Depressive Disorder, Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Social Phobia, Panic Disorder (with and without agoraphobia), Borderline Personality Disorder, Grief and loss, to name just a few.
I utilize many theories and interventions in session. The main ones used are Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). These therapies subscribe to the idea that if we do not like the way that we are feeling emotionally, we must change the way we are thinking since the two are intimately connected. This concept is also known as "cognitive restructuring". These forms of psychotherapy are very effective at assisting clients in reducing and/or eliminating destructive thought patterns and replacing them with more effective/healthy ones, thus exacting a positive change in the client's emotional status. Essentially, they help put YOU back in control of your emotions.
Please feel free to call, text or email me with any questions or concerns that you may have. I have many payment options and I do accept insurance.
